MATH VOCABULARY
I know that many teachers like to have their Word Walls up before the start of school. The only problem with this strategy is that the students will ignore it. It is there for the teacher and the parents and it means nothing to the students. I never put any words up on the wall until I have introduced them and the students know what they mean. Then they are color coded by strand and put up in alphabetical order. They are easy for students to locate and the color coding helps the students see the connections between terms. As an example; all geometry terms are on yellow card stock. I also try to include a graphic if possible.
